Developing Good Dental Habits

Benjamin Franklin once said that it’s easier to prevent bad habits than to break them. At Create A Smile in Bloomington IN, we think this holds true for almost everything in life, including dental care.

Taking care of your teeth is something you have to give attention to every day, without fail. That means regular flossing and brushing. Our recommendations include:

  • Brushing before bed. Brushing twice a day is best, and before you hit the hay is critical. That will get ride of germs and plaque that has built up on your teeth during the day.
  • Proper brushing. Brushing is important, and so is doing it properly. The experts agree that it’s most effective to brush in slow, light, circular strokes. Be sure to get along the gumline, both sides of the teeth, and the chewing surfaces too. Don’t forget your tongue!
  • Toothpaste. Be sure to use enough toothpaste. Get whatever flavor you like best, but make sure it has fluoride. This is more important than whitening agents.
  • Floss. Should you floss before or after you brush? There’s no hard and fast rule on this. There are lots of floss types on the market. String floss is better than floss picks
